If you’ve started planning a Disney cruise and got overwhelmed by all of the magical ship names (Magic, Wonder, Dream, Fantasy, Wish, Treasure, Destiny), you are not alone. Disney doesn’t just have ships. It has ship classes, each with its own personality. Keep reading to learn more so you can pick the one that makes sense for your family, instead of just booking whichever one has the fanciest website photos.
Do you want Magic and Fantasy, or to find your Destiny?

Meet the Classics – The Magic Class
Ships: Disney Magic (1998), Disney Wonder (1999) – Both have been updated since their original launch date!
The OG Disney Ships feature a black hull, red funnels, and a timeless ocean liner silhouette. As the smallest ships in the fleet, they offer shorter lines, easier navigation, and an intimate vibe. These ships introduced rotational dining (including the beloved Animator’s Palate) and tend to sail unique itineraries, like Alaska and Hawaii. If you want a cruise that feels a little less like a floating theme park and a little more like a classic cruise, choose this class.
Meet the Crowd Pleasers – The Dream Class
Ships: Disney Dream (2011), Disney Fantasy (2012) – Both have been updated since their original launch date!
Disney leaned into “bigger and bolder” energy, and these ships do not disappoint. These ships uniquely feature the AquaDuck water coaster, which shoots riders out over the side of the ship in a clear enclosed tube. These ships also introduced “magical portholes” that give interior staterooms a live ocean view via an integrated screen (though your kids will not care). They hold up to 4,000 guests and strike a nice balance between mega ship amenities and a manageable size. Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream rotate around the world for their itineraries, and Disney frequently stations them in two Florida cruise ports to provide easy access for a family vacation any time of year.
Meet the Showstoppers – The Wish Class
Ships: Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024), Disney Destiny (2025), Disney Believe (coming late 2027)
Disney’s newest class delivers next-level ships. Designers built these ships around full immersion, creating unique Grand Hall centerpieces for each vessel alongside new themed dining rooms like Arendelle (Frozen), Pride Lands (Lion King), Plaza de Coco (Coco), Worlds of Marvel, and 1923. The AquaMouse serves as the Wish class version of the onboard water slide. These ships offer the breathtaking, Disney-forward experience you are looking for, and Disney designed this class to impress the moment you step on board into the enchanting Grand Hall.
So which one is right for you?

Your choices depend entirely on what you want: nostalgia and a relaxed pace (Magic or Wonder), a proven family favorite with big ship fun (Dream or Fantasy), or maximum theming and “wow” moments (Wish, Treasure, Destiny, Believe). You cannot make a wrong choice; your family and travel style simply dictate a better or worse fit.
Next, we should quickly discuss your travel dates, travel party, desired destination, and ideal trip image. That way, I can point you toward the ship and itinerary that make the most sense for you. Because I have sailed on nearly all of the active ships, I can share first-hand knowledge of each one!
P.S. The fleet includes another ship, the Disney Adventure, but it skips the class comparison because it has earned the right to do its own thing. Disney bases this ship year-round in Singapore as its largest vessel by a wide margin, building it around themed zones and rides (including an onboard roller coaster) rather than the classic cruise format. It deserves a mention, but it stands in a class of its own.
