Grape dust, bubble gum, bacon and fruit loops are all doughnut toppings at one of the country’s most famous doughnut restaurants – Voodoo Doughnut at CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort. This must do experience can be found just outside the entrance to Universal’s two wildly popular theme parks, so it’s a great place to stop by on your way into the park for the day. Or, a great place to grab an afternoon snack and coffee to refuel for the rest of your day.
You will want to peruse the menu online and also check out the display cases inside the restaurant. Be sure you have one or two back up choices because once a particular doughnut has sold out, that is all there will be until the magical Voodoo employees have time to make up a new batch, get them decorated and available to sell.
Want to ensure you get your favorite doughnut and skip the line that often builds outside this very popular breakfast joint? (Although it continues to be busy throughout the day.) Voodoo CityWalk has recently started allowing guests to pre-order their doughnut order. You can call or text (407-267-6897), or email (voodoo-doughnut@universalorlando.com) your order two hours in advance and they will have your order ready to go when you arrive. Note that there is a 12 doughnut limit on pre orders.
Before you even step into the store, you’ll find the iconic doughnut throne where you’ll need to stop and snap a few pictures in order to commemorate the full Voodoo experience. Once you head inside, you’ll find several doughnut displays – one of which rotates so that you can get a good look at everything while you wait in line. There are so many options to choose from, but be sure to try the original Voodoo Doughnut that comes as a Voodoo Doll – complete with red jelly filling and a pretzel stick for stabbing (it is a Voodoo Doll after all).
Along with the whimsical decor and atmosphere, there are several other things that make VooDoo Doughnut unique. They offer legal and non-legal weddings, there are more than 50 kinds of Doughnuts and they are the Originators of the Cannolo and Bacon Maple Bar. Other fan favorites include Voodoo Doll Doughnut, Portland Cream, and the Old Dirty Bastard. Each Voodoo Doughnut store (there are currently 9 locations around the country) feature original black velvet paintings by Juanita and unique stained glass pieces from the Chuck Franklin Glass Studio.
Be sure to check out Voodoo Doughnut next time you’re visiting Universal CityWalk, because as they say, Good Things Come in Pink Boxes.
