Let’s talk about traveling domestically! (I am assuming most of my readers are living in the United States. To those that are not in the US – hello! Come and see us here!)

The U.S. is great. There are mountains, beaches, deserts, and deep-fried everything, all without needing a passport or frantically trying to remember anything from your high school French class. You can hop on a plane, or just drive a few hours, and suddenly you’re in a place with totally different vibes than where you live. It’s like going abroad… but with unlimited data and no need to covert measurements or currency exchanges.

(Note: This list is in no way all inclusive of the awesome U.S. destinations!)

While I was brainstorming what to include in this post I began making a list of the unique places there are to visit in the United States. I’m a big fan of lists, so I’m going to list some of my ideas below. I’d love to hear other ides is you have some thoughts about places you might want to experience!

  • National Parks  – Did you know there are currently 63 official national parks? That a lot of places to visit! The top 3 most visited National Parks are Great Smoky Mountains National Park (TN/NC), Grand Canyon National Park (AZ), and Zion National Park (UT).
  • Hawai’i – There are 8 main islands, but there are 6 that are generally open to visitors. The top 3 most visited Hawaiian islands are OahuMaui, and Big Island (Island of Hawai’i). Each island in Hawai’i is unique and offers different experiences. Not sure which vibe you’re looking for? Visit more than one island! I’ll help you narrow it down.
  • Alaska – Cruising is a great way to experience Alaska, but for mainland adventures you can also plan a trip into the heart of the state to visit Denali National Park, drive some of the scenic highways or visit Fairbanks and take your chances at seeing the Northern Lights.
  • Napa Valley/Sonoma – For the food and wine lovers out there – take a few days to visit Napa Valley or Sonoma and experience a hot air balloon ride over the rolling hills and vineyards and then stroll through the towns and visit wineries for some delicious taste testing.
  • Boston and the Freedom Trail – Are you a history buff? Check out the 2.5 mile Freedom Trail takes you to see 16 historic sites and puts you right into the history of the Revolutionary War.
  • San Fransisco, New York City, Key West, Washington, D.C., New Orleans, Chicago, Nashville, Las Vegas, Seattle, and SO many more!

What are some destinations within the U.S. that might be a unique place for your family to visit?
