What You Need to Know About Disney Genie+

Mar 2, 2023 | Walt Disney World

Disney Genie+ is a new paid service offered for use at the four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort and the two theme parks at Disneyland Resort. The service will help you plan your day and skip the lines for certain attractions. The service was introduced in late 2021 and has quickly become a popular choice for many park-goers.

Genie+ pricing varies by day. Check the My Disney Experience app for current pricing each day.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Purchase Disney Genie+: To use the service, you must purchase Disney Genie+ for a daily fee per person. The fee varies depending on the park and time of year. The cost of the service is in addition to the regular park admission ticket.
  2. Make Reservations: Once you have purchased Disney Genie+, you can use the service to make reservations for select attractions. You can make selections throughout the day via the My Disney Experience app.
  3. Skip the Lines: When it’s time for your reserved time slot, you can skip the regular standby line. You will use the separate Lightning Lane line to get on the ride faster. This can save you a significant amount of time, especially during peak season when wait times for popular rides can be hours long.

It’s important to note that not all attractions are included in Disney Genie+. Some attractions require a separate individual purchase or reservation. Additionally, the service is subject to availability and may sell out on busy days.

In addition to Disney Genie+ service, you can also purchase Individual Lightning Lane (ILL) passes. Individual Lightning Lane passes are for certain high-demand attractions. The current ILL attractions are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Rise of the Resistance and Flight of Passage. For an additional fee per person, you can use Lightning Lane to skip the line for these attractions. These individual purchases are NOT a part of the Disney Genie+ service and can be used in addition to Disney Genie+ or as a stand alone purchase.

Enter a ride or attraction using the Lightning Lane if you have made a reservation using Genie+ service.

There have been mixed reviews about Disney Genie+ among park-goers. Some have praised the service for making their day more efficient and enjoyable. Others have criticized it for creating a two-tiered system that favors those who can afford to pay for the service.

Disney has responded to these concerns by emphasizing that Disney Genie+ is an optional service and that guests can still enjoy the parks without it. They have also stated that they are continually monitoring and adjusting the service to ensure the best possible experience for all guests.

Despite the mixed reviews, Disney Genie+ has quickly become a popular choice for many park-goers. It can be a great option for those who want to skip the lines and maximize their time. This is especially helpful during peak season when wait times for popular attractions can be long. However, it’s important to weigh the cost and availability of the service before purchasing. It is also important to remember that it’s just one of many ways to enjoy the parks.

In addition to Disney Genie+, there are other ways to skip the lines and make the most of your time at the parks including single rider lines for select attractions, and early entry to the theme parks for guests staying at select Walt Disney World Resort hotels. It’s a good idea to research all of your options and choose the ones that work best for you and your group.
